Welcome to Homeward Personal Training!

We are Personal Trainers for a new age -- an age where exercise doesn't have to be boring or barbaric to be effective. Our approach to fitness is scientific in nature and artful in design. We incorporate all of the latest and most cutting edge training/treatment methods into our sessions -- methods that address the fascial network, muscular imbalances, compensatory patterns, and the visual, vestibular, and proprioceptive systems.

We believe firmly in the StrongFirst mantra that "Strength is a Skill." There are many different types of strength -- Strength that lets you lift a boulder and Strength that lets you play with your grandchildren well into the later years of your life. The wonderful thing about a skill is that, much like a golf swing, it can be learned at any stage in life and it can always improve. We are an association of expert trainers whose aim it is to teach the skill of strength.

Come in. Try us out. Let us show you the fearsome things you're capable of.

what we offer:

Intelligent Personal Training designed to help you achieve your goals swiftly and safely. Our trainers specialize in weight loss/management, general fitness, muscle building, and athletic development, and offer a wide variety of training styles including barbell weightlifting/powerlifting, kettlebells, bodyweight training and endurance.

the homeward difference:

We use a "whole organism" approach to fitness. Nothing in the body is isolated -- everything is connected, so we treat it as such. Aches and pains that hold you back from doing the things you love need not be permanent. In all of our sessions, our aim is to help you remove those barriers and get back to doing what you love, and do it better than ever before.

Kendra Knowles

Kendra has always been very active in sports and exercise.  She swam and played tennis competitively through high school and college and has always run recreationally.  While in graduate school, a running related knee injury and little free time lead her to CrossFit.  At first she was reluctant and intimidated but quickly noticed the benefits and confidence that she gained from CrossFit.  Ever since overcoming that barrier in 2010, CrossFit has become a huge part of her life. As a new mom, she can attest that CrossFit kept her healthy during her pregnancy and shortened her postpartum recovery.

Kendra also had the opportunity to direct a CrossFit affiliate gym for 4 years.  Through that experience she discovered the most rewarding aspects of coaching and personal training are witnessing others’ growth as athletes and, in turn, the building of self confidence and self esteem.  Additionally, she has worked with a wide variety of athletes including average folks wanting to better themselves, college athletes, pregnant women, new moms, seniors, and most recently at-risk youth in middle and high school.

Outside of coaching and personal training, Kendra is an Interior Design Consultant.  She enjoys spending time with her family, trail running, and gardening.

Life isn’t always about where the road leads, it is about the family, good friends, and community that make the ride worthwhile.

Matt Cialdini

Matt Cialdini is an active member of his native Chapel Hill community. Matt joined CrossFit in 2014 after getting tired of his boring gym routine. He quickly fell in love with the community and competitive energy that CrossFit breeds. Matt became a CrossFit Level 1 trainer in 2015 and began coaching immediately.

Matt has expanded his class coaching to working with at-risk youth through the Second Family Fit program as well as working one-on-one as a personal trainer to those who desire an individualized, butt-kicking work out. Matt’s magnetic enthusiasm for helping others achieve their strength and wellness goals is a true passion that he loves to share.

When Matt isn’t at the gym, he can be found snuggling his favorite being in the entire world; his pitbull mutt Macho Man Randy Savage.
