Live Music and Charity Celebration

Live music and Crossfit competition to aid Special Olympics and Dog-Fostering Charity

201 S. Estes Drive Unit C16, University Mall, Chapel Hill

Inside University Mall next to Southern Season

March 25, 2017

9AM to 12:30PM

CrossFit Homeward will host a Charity Event with live music, local food and fitness vendors, a Crossfit Competition, and a raffle. Proceeds from the event will go to support the charities: Adopt-a-Bulls and The Special Olympics.

Skinny Bag of Sugar (https://www.facebook.com/skinnybagofsugar/) will provide live music throughout the event -- specifically during the Crossfit competition. March 25 is the final weekend of a 5-week-long Crossfit-community global competition. Events are released each week, and competitors have limited time to perform the movements, get an official tally from a sanctioned judge, and submit their scores online where they’re ranked globally. The top athletes in each region move on to the next stage of competitions on their road to the Crossfit Games (a yearly trial to find the fittest people on Earth).

Competitors have pledged to donate $0.10 per point scored during each week -- typical scores range from 100 to 400 points (that’s ~$30/week/person, and with nearly 80 competitors that adds up quickly). Competitors’ supporters have pledged match whatever donation the competitor makes. In addition to the funds raised by individuals, local vendors have pledged donations and will raffle off goods and services with all proceeds benefiting the charities. These vendors will be on-site for the duration of the event to sell their products at a discounted rate.

Vendors include:

Play It Again Sports

FleetFeet

The Busy Bee Personal Chef

Kidzu

Southern Season

Silverspot Cinemas

The charities supported during the event:

Adopt-A-Bulls (http://www.carolinaadoptabulls.com)

The Special Olympics (http://www.specialolympics.org/).

Adopt-A-Bulls is an organization that works to eliminate breed restrictions and end pit bull bans, educate the public about pit bull truth and fiction, and liberate and find loving homes for pit bulls -- they focus on North Carolina Shelters.

The Special Olympics is an organization that helps people with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success through the power of sports.

Crossfit Homeward is dedicated to serving the Chapel Hill/Durham communities -- it’s our mission to help as many people in as many ways as possible. Our members seem to share that vision with us, because what started as a friendly in-house competition has quickly grown into our largest event of the season with hopefully several thousand dollars going to each of these charities. We’d like to extend the invitation to any and all to attend for some live music, cheering, and fun, we only ask for a small donation at the door.
